Conference EFAP - Implementation of Architectural Policies - New Expectations
Architecture and the quality of public spaces influence all aspects of life in any society.
This idea is not generally known and accepted. There is much disinformation and reluctance to accept this fact particularly among highly raking representatives of public administration and politicians.
European society has arrived to the point where improvement of life conditions through consumption of goods and satisfaction of basic needs is not any more possible. One of ways how to achieve better quality of life is to improve the quality of the built environment. That’s what architectural policies should offer and preach in the future.
We want to discuss future expectations of the public, architects, politicians and all involved parties taking into account experiences with implementation of Architectural Policies in other European countries. We want to help all countries, where architectural policies have not yet been approved by showing them their importance and focusing their attention on them.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE EFAP CONFERENCE HELD IN PRAGUE IN 2009 ARE AS FOLLOWS:
• To inform highly ranking officers and politicians of European countries about the existence and the aim of Architectural Policies,
• To promote importance of Architectural Policies,
• To demonstrate on practical examples that a national Architectural Policy is a useful tool for improving life of the society,
• To continue activities in the field of sustainable development introduced during the French Presidency.
Individual Conference sections will demonstrate utilization of Architectural Policies in the following fields:
• General education dealing with the role of architecture in any society as a key to improvement of processes which form living spaces.
• Possible forms of public procurement as examples of correct processes leading to holistic approach to shaping the built environment.
• Needs, expectations and participation of civil society entities in the process of shaping the built environment.
• Forums for sharing innovations and information within the EFAP network as a tool for using knowledge generated in countries participating in the network.
